This is Ortiz in deep thought as he waits to load the aircraft. Sauer found this toilet in the dump (it was new) and brought it back to the flight line so Potter decided to bring it along for a flight. It was quite a hit with the passengers.

The Thinker, Army style (~:} On our campouts in the FS we always took a toliet lid. Beat trying to balance on a branch seat.

Fortunately we are a little more civilized here :) All the bases we stop at have the port-a-johns but I could tell you some interesting stories about long cross country flights - just not on this forum :)

This toilet seat was military purchase? Who has access to the dump? (This would be a treasure site for local merchants!) What was the seat's intended use, post-dump? (: Ornamental object? Rescue by a thrifty person who hated waste? Or....answer #3...you have no clue? (:

Locals do not have access to the dump and yes it would be a treasure site for them. As a taxpayer it would probably make you feel a little ill. Some amazing stuff is thrown away as units clear their books and get ready to leave. A lot of times you find stuff still in unopened boxes and piles of items that with a little work and some spare parts would work just fine. I have no idea what Sauer intended for that toilet but he is a true Alaskan who hates waste and always assumes that at some point in the future he can find a use for just about anything.
