This is Madeline (at least I think that is how she spells it), one of the Eagles cheerleaders, sitting in the jump seat of our aircraft. Halfway through the flight she told us that in general she really doesn't like flying but a helicopter was actually fun (my thoughts exactly).

Kinda ticks me off that cheerleaders are brought in for entertainment and morale boosting, how about flying in some wives instead? Seems like a better investment in the long run.

Sara,

That is an interesting idea but the morale boosting effect of wives is much more narrowly focused (at least one would hope so) and that brings the whole fairness thing into play :) Actually very few people come over here. In the year we have been here less than 20 celebrities (if you will) have been here (and that includes two groups of cheerleaders). It isn't for lack of trying on the part of the military - it's just that people don't have any real desire to come here. So when they are trying to bring a little piece of the states over here the options are limited. I understand your point about the cheerleaders (I would much rather see Wendi :) but you have to remember that the majority of the people here are single males under the age of 25, which I guess is the target audience.

I sympathize with Sara's comments and am all for wives...wives are MUCH more complicated. They would want to make changes. (:

Jen agrees with Sara as well...I am sure the wives would be more appreciative of flying and posing for pictures with the soldiers. They might even do free dance routines if the army flew them there for free!!;)
