These are some of the decorations in the chow hall that put up for Memorial Day. They really go all out but I have no idea where they get the designs for the statues. They have had some very interesting ones on the various holidays.

That was a really odd statue, wish I could have seen it up close. What was in the dishes on the right? Looks like jello balls:)

Sara,

It was an odd statue - even up close :) You may already know this but if you click on the picture it will zoom in for you. They are wearing some sort of Revolutionary War outfit with a lady of justice figure thrown in. As far as the dishes - they are just collections of big plastic flowers. The light isn't very good in there and my flash is pathetic so I have to set the camera on something to keep it steady and leave the shutter open. The end results are marginal as you can see.

WOW!!! I am speechless. (: There is a tradition to this stuff that reaches back into what? Greek ideas I think. Women with wings and tridents and helmets and shields and swords all representing Victory and Courage and Justice and whatnot. Fascinating and odd. (: All the same...I look with admiration and commend those who planned and hung and placed this. I think they were proud. (:

They do come up with some pretty amazing centerpieces. I don't have any idea who is in charge of it or who makes them but they often have an American theme but it is a little off, like a non-native interpreting an American theme. There is one they did for Mother's Day that I will have to get a picture of - very interesting. I think they are proud of their work (and justifiably so I might add) because they leave them up for a long time. Except for Christmas - for some reason that was gone the next day.

Impressive! Are all the workers foreign? Do you have "tasters" like kings of old, to avoid posions (~:} ?
