This is Dimon, our task force commander. I'm not sure I have posted any other pictures of him so I decided I better make sure I included at least one. In case you were wondering that isn't real beer on the table. It is the non-alcoholic type with all the bad taste and none of the effects.

Interesting, the no alcohol policy. Is this Muslim sensitivity? I don't see any problem with no alcohol...eliminates a lot of discipline problems but I wonder if this is now universal Army policy or is this just for Iraq? Picture interesting to me becasue of the close up of the protective blast walls...wow!

The no alcohol policy has been standard since Kosovo times (maybe even back to Desert Storm) and it applies to all U.S. military. Now it is even extended to long training exercises back in the states. That decision is left up to the local commander but it is rare that anyone is going to accept that responsibility and allow it. You are correct on the reason - it is always easier to have a blanket no policy and not have to deal with exceptions and the resulting problems. Overall I think it is a very wise policy, at least for now.
Those barriers are called Hescos (named after the company that makes them). They are a wire frame with a mat like lining that is then filled with dirt. It makes a very effective barrier that can be easily transported when empty. In theory they could be reused after taking all the dirt out but I have never seen that happen.
