A better picture of the Euphrates River. There are different places where the river has been channeled and branched off to provide irrigation. You can see how vital water is in this area.

Dear David...In looking at Euphrates River...I had a thought. When flying over...do you have the leisure or the inclination to think "Amazing!!! This is THE Euphrates River!" with all the associated Biblical and historical connetations? Or is it just flying....and the mundance considerations involved in flying? Thanks for taking the time to do this. Your words mean a lot to us.

No problem - this keeps me busy and actually makes it much easier to communicate. I don't have to fill in all the background every time I talk to someone. As far as the Euphrates goes I do think about it - at least when I am flying during the day (at night it just looks like a dark shiny patch). It is pretty amazing especially when you are high up and can see it snaking across the desert for miles. There is a spring just off the river that is actually within the wire of the Al Asad base. By tradition it is one of the places where Abraham stopped and stayed for awhile during his journey. So it is off limits to the military. It is a wild looking place and I have pictures of it but I can't post them since it shows the base. Love you guys.

Hey, David!
Here I am at the King Ko Inn in King Salmon. Teaching is very time consuming--much to plan--especially without any established curriculum. The students are wonderful--motivated, asking questions--it is a great opportunity.
It is great to see the Euphrates River--it appears to come right out of nowhere! Is that true?
How are you? And the unit? Tough August.
A week before I left Fairbanks, the Bible Study was out in your yard with little flashlights playing Extreme Crochet until midnight...:) I thought you'd enjoy the image...:)
I have sparse Internet connectivity, but will keep in touch with you as I can.
You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Kat,
Thanks for the note - it is always good to hear from you. I am glad you made it safely to King Salmon. I can only imagine how much work that is starting from scratch but knowing you it will be something you really enjoy. I always enjoy teaching when the audience is excited about learning - it makes all the difference. It does look like the river comes from nowhere but that is just the haze and the angle of the picture. It flows along looking pretty much like it does in the picture for miles. I haven't been able to fly back along it for farther than about 100 miles but it is something I would love to do. Tell Dan hi and thanks for keeping in touch - you guys will be in my prayers.
