The Marine's newest toy - the V22 Osprey. It is a strange looking thing - I hope it works for them because if nothing else it will help us get out us get out of here sooner. I still haven't seen one flying - just taxiing around.

David,
I really hope you won't ask for a ride in this machine. I understand it doesn't autorotate nor did it get tested during duststorms? sara

You can rest assured that I won't ask for a ride :) Nor would I ever want to fly one - we have enough moving parts without adding tilt rotors. That is a good question about the autorotation abilities. I hadn't thought of that before but I think if they lost both their engines while flying they would land like a plane. If they lost them (or even one) while hovering down I imagine it would be all over. As far as the dust storms go nothing is tested in dust storms - you just live through them :). I know there was some concern about how they would hold up over here but I don't think they will be worse off than any other machine.
