This is the crew up in Al Asad with 174. We were ready to go but for some reason our UH-60 escort delayed the departure for an hour. It did gives us the chance to go eat at Burger King. I really don't like the food but after not being able to get it for a couple of months it actually tasted pretty good.

Dave,

Although I have eaten at Burger King a number of times at both Ft Wainwright and Eielson, it strikes me as hilarious that you would eat at Burger King in Al Asad, Iraq while waiting for your escort to get squared away. I guess I invisioned you being largly confined to lonely, out of the way places while flying missions. Or do even lonely, out of the way places in Iraq have Burger Kings?

Did they have just the usual American line-up or did they have some local items as well? I remember in Japan the American-food places (like McDonalds and various pizza parlors) had some interesting local fare.

They have the usual - nothing local at least not on base. The entire menu is about 8 items. There are some lonely out of the way places but most of the aviation is concentrated at the big bases. Especially the -47s since that is where all the cargo and people are flown into country. Then we take the stuff out to the smaller areas.

Thanks Erica. Your Mom has been telling me about some of the things you guys have done this summer - sounds like fun. Good job on the swimming - that is something I have never learned to do well but I would like to. I still don't think of myself as an uncle - that sounds so old but if I get to have a niece and nephew like you and Sam I guess it's not all bad :) Love you guys.
