This is a rare picture of the two guys actually running PC (at least for now). L-R Friend (he is taking Steve's job until he gets back from leave), Brian (who just went is getting ready to go on leave) and J.R. who is hanging out looking for test flights (or not).

I know you have scheduled flights. But your comment indicates that proximity to the assignment area makes a difference if you want to fly. Correct? Does a willingness to fly (Like Forest Service willingness to go on fires) generally mean you get to fly more? Of course, now that I think of it...the FS has become much less of a volunteer organization..much more structured. Now I don't think wanting to go on a fire would count for much (:

We have a schedule for the day and night crews. It is posted weekly so you know in advance what days you are flying, helping out with maintenance, manning the operations desk ect. So on your day to fly if there is no mission, the weather is bad or whatever then you may not fly. There is some trading but overall people stick to the schedule. A few people are known as the ones who always want to fly so if someone wants to give up a flight they know who to talk to.
