I had to post one more picture of dust, hopefully this was our last dust storm of the season (we haven't had one in almost a week). It almost looks like aircraft in a fog bank.

In reference to dust and Q fever. Were you given any advice to prevent re-occurrence? What are some general health warnings for the area? Or are there any? (In view of your comparative isolation?) Dust storms evidently seasonal? Once yearly? Or Spring and Fall? Temperature related? You must have weather forcasting? From where? Military has own weather people?

From my understanding now that I have had Q fever my immune system is pretty well equipped to take care of any re-occurrence. The only general health warnings we received were don't swim in the lake and watch out for wildlife. The dust storms are more prevalent in the spring and summer but they can happen year round.
Weather forecasting is always a big concern of ours. The Army doesn't actually have weather people. Wherever there is Army aviation the Air Force provides forecasters. In our situation here it is the Marines who provide the service. All the weather forecasting for Iraq is done back in the states. The people here pull those forecasts off the internet and then they report current conditions and can give us advice based on their experience but they can't change the forecast. Kind of a strange deal but it is a result of downsizing. Up in Alaska all our weather forecasting is done in Hawaii - this doesn't give us a lot of confidence as you can imagine. So we rely a lot on experience.
